ATU 1505 welcomes ATU Canada President

ATU members listening in on training at the Main Street Project.

ATU 1505 was pleased to welcome newly elected ATU Canada President John DiNino and the new ATU Canada organizer, Justin Pantos, for a week of organizing, stewards training and a tour of the Main Street Project.

20 ATU stewards and member activists were booked off for the insightful training, which took place over two days.

"The stewards training allowed members to apply their own experience to the existing course material," said ATU 1505 Chief Steward Derek Hanley. "It was was beneficial to discuss our own experiences and outcomes, from our own members and from President DiNino, more than we could learn from a booklet."

The representatives from ATU Canada and stewards from 1505 also took a tour of Main Street Project and took training for transit operators designed by the Main Street Project to train operators on how to deal with at risk passenger that they may encounter on a daily basis.

A recent Winnipeg Free Press article detailed the training which attracted observers from Washington DC, to Edmonton, Alberta. The article is available here:

Representatives from ATU 1505 and ATU Canada also met with St. Vital City Councillor Brian Mayes and the Leader of the Opposition, Wab Kinew, on topics relating to transit.
